Undoing Climate Damage in Africa- The Green Wall

Power to the People! Remember that rallying cry of the sixties? Well maybe it should be power to the People and the Trees! The people of 11 African countries have heard the environment crying and their answer is "The Green Wall."
The Great Green Wall is a joint project combating the effects of climate change and desertification. Led by the African Union the initiative is creating a great mosaic of green and productive landscapes across North Africa.
It's using the power of the people and a planting program for rural development to strengthen the resilience of the region's natural systems with sound ecosystem management, and the protection of rural heritage. This in turn is improving the living conditions of the local population.
The Initiative involves  local communities in the sustainable management and use of forestsrangelands and other natural resources in drylands. It also seeks to contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation, as well as improve food security in the Sahel and the Sahara.
